Today, 21 September 2022, the Sprinske Empire and Alba Nuadh, two member states of the Kolniaric Union, have declared war on the neighbouring nation, the Mafia Republic, due to a plot to weaken the Sprinske Delta, the shared currency of the Kolniaric Union.
Earlier in the day, Emperor Aaron I conducted an experiment to determine the value of the Sprinske Delta, by asking citizens to value an item in pounds, then giving them Deltas and asking them to pay what they thought the item was worth in Deltas, coming to the conclusion that the Delta has four times the purchasing power of the Pound. During this experiment, he gave the President of the Mafia Republic some money to get the nation up and running, but a few hours later, he was informed by the Sprinske Intelligence Agency that the Mafia Republic was planning to create counterfeit versions of the Sprinske Delta, which would easily weaken the economy of the Kolniaric Union’s nations, and cause an economic disaster. The Sprinske Intelligence Agency did not know that the Emperor had given the President of the Mafia Republic the money, therefore meaning that they were telling the truth.
A few hours after the report, the Sprinske Empire notified their ally, Alba Nuadh, who then declared the war to prevent a full-scale economic collapse of the Delta, immediately followed by the Sprinske Empire itself, and the PDRS is expected to make a decision tomorrow. As the Sprinske Empire is a member of the BalCasMed Alliance, an emergency assembly was called, as the alliance is a military-economic alliance. The Treaty of the Sea dictates that all members must join the war if a member state was attacked, but as the Sprinske Empire declared war on the Mafia Republic first, it did not fall under this category. As a result of this, the alliance did not enter the war, but the governments of the Republic of Dostykstan, Empire of the Kingdom of the Shark and the Republic of Aweland all issued statements on the matter condemning the Mafia Republic for attempting to weaken the currency, but did not join the war. Aweland, however, warned that they would enter if there was any further escalation by the Mafia Republic.
The war is partially an extension of the Second Micronational War on Terror, but it is important to note that the Mafia Republic is not allied with Slivuna or the now-defunct BDA, despite the President of the Mafia Republic being a member of the BDA during the Battle of Yeltsingrad during his time as Prime Minister of the Sprinske Empire.
