The Sprinske Civil War has officially ended following the signing of the Treaty of Rio De Sprinske by General Zachary (West Sprinske) and Emperor Aaron I (Sprinske Empire). The war started in August of last year, on 3 August 2021, the Communist Faction led by General Zachary, after a major dispute with the Imperial Faction, declared independence. This violated the Sprinske Constitution, so war broke out as a result. After many battles, including five naval battles with paper battleships, the Sprinske Empire emerged victorious in December, with West Sprinske falling into a state of disgrace, with its government collapsing, and the nation lay dormant. No fighting occurred after the December Ceasefire, but as no formal treaty was signed, the war continued. The Sprinske Empire was damaged by the war, but not as much as West Sprinske, and managed to recover from the war and is in a much better position now than it was before the war.
Following the December Ceasefire, the Sprinske Empire entered a period known as the ‘Post-Civil War Era’ despite the war still being fought in theory, and this period ended before the war itself. The Post-Civil War was the period following the ceasefire until June 2022, and it focused on reconstruction following the destruction of the war. It was then followed by the Improvement Era and International Era, and today, the Treaty of Rio De Sprinske has been signed, officially ending the war.
Due to Sprinske customs, treaties always go into effect on the closest hour to the signing, The Treaty of Rio De Sprinske was signed at 11:12, but as that was not on an hour mark, the treaty didn’t actually go into effect until 12:00.
Following the end of the Civil War, the nation had its monthly Prime Ministerial Elections. Sitting Prime Minister, Masyn Maher, decided not to run for re-election, and at the end of the elections, Matteo Catania was elected as the new Prime Minister. The Emperor then decided that the nation needed a new Coat of Arms, and decided that the nation needed a national animal as the country didn’t have much symbolism until that point. The country already had a national plant, the Palm Tree, and a flag, but a national animal was yet to be decided, so the Emperor asked the government members to select an animal that would symbolise the nation’s strength, but it couldn’t be a very specific species, just a vague, but still meaningful symbol of strength, so the list was narrowed down to a tiger, a wolf, an alligator, a cobra snake, or a hippopotamus. The hippopotamus received no votes, and the Emperor disqualified it, and the two with the most votes were alligator and cobra snake, but Rio De Sprinske, Shedhill and the Eastern Kolniari provinces did not vote yet, and by the end of it, the national animal was chosen as the wolf, but the cobra snake got a very close second place, and earned a spot on the coat of arms.
